Strong pitching leads the Blue Devils past Lehigh 7-0

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – Duke used strong pitching early to shutout Lehigh 7-0 Friday afternoon in Durham.

It was the first home opener win in three years for the Blue Devils and the first blanking on opening day for Duke since 1992. 

Duke used four different pitchers, retiring 16 consecutive batters at one point.  Graeme Stinson got the start, and the win, striking out six and only allowing one hit over the first three innings. 

Kennie Taylor and Michael Rothenberg drove in runs to start the game, with Erikson Nichols leading the Blue Devils with a personal best three hits and two runs batted in. 

Duke resumes the series with Lehigh Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
