CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WNCN) – Virginia blew open Thursday’s quarterfinal game in the Atlantic Coast Conference on its way to a 76-56 win over North Carolina State.

The Cavaliers trailed 29-27 at halftime. A De’Andre Hunter 3-pointer with 12:23 left seemed to open the floodgates. Kyle Guy followed with one of his own as Virginia exploded on a 16-3 run, which Guy punctuated with another 3, over the course of 4:12.

Guy had a game-best 29 points. Jack Salt added 18, and Hunter had 16.

Markell Johnson led the Wolfpack with 13 points. DJ Funderburk added 12 off the bench.

Virginia advances to play the winner of Virginia Tech vs. Florida State in Friday’s semifinal. N.C. State, which was on the fence for the NCAA Tournament, will return to Raleigh and wait to learn its fate this weekend.
