Report: Tiger Woods planning to visit the White House to receive award

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Decorated golfer Tiger Woods is expected to visit the White House to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a source with knowledge of the matter confirmed to CBS News.

Woods caught the attention of President Donald Trump after the former captured his fifth Masters title. The president announced via Twitter that he would like to present Woods with the prestigious award.

Once Woods receives the award, he would be a part of a select group of golfers that achieved the feat. Jack Niklaus and Arnold Palmer received the medal by former President George W. Bush and Charles Sifford received it from former President Barack Obama.

Woods has won 15 majors in his legendary career, trailing only Jack Niklaus’ 18 and has won 81 PGA Tour events, one behind Sam Snead’s 82, among other accolades.
