Cardinal Gibbons’ defense clamped down, and quarterback Nick Fry had two touchdown throws of exactly 52 yards to help the Crusaders blank Southern Durham, 34-0.
Southern Durham was coming off a Week 1 upset of area powerhouse AC Reynolds. The Spartans couldn’t follow that with a road upset in Week 2.
J.T. Nalesnik caught the first 52-yard toss from Fry, and Jacob Gill had a catch-and-run for the second.
Crusader linebacker Jake Strother came up with a highlight play before halftime. He hauled in a one-handed interception, and took it the other way for a touchdown.
