Games get more difficult with each round of the playoffs. Running into a cross-town rival in the postseason only makes it tougher.
Northern Durham learned that Friday night. The Knights, with only one loss in the regular season, earned the top seed in the 3-AA east. One of those wins this season came at Hillside, 20-14, on Oct. 19.
But with their season on the line, the Hornets managed a 26-13 upset to send the No. 1 seed packing and them to the third round.
Northern took an early lead thanks to a touchdown run from Xavier Miller. Hillside quarterback Damian Harris answered with a score of his own to give the visitors a 7-6 lead.
Then, on the last play of the first half, the junior signal caller found pay dirt through the air when he connected with David Madzivanyika. The 6-foot-4 senior grabbed the momentum for the Hornets, who now look forward to a trip to Cleveland.
