Millbrook squeaks out 67-63 win over Leesville Road in 1st round of playoffs

The Blitz

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Millbrook had lost one game all year — its semifinal matchup in the Cap 7 Conference Tournament, 80-61, to Leesville Road. The Wildcats and Pride being matched up against each other in the first round of the 4-A state playoffs had all the makings of a class.

So much so, in fact, that North Carolina State head coach Kevin Keatts stopped by to check out some of the prospects in his backyard.

Millbrook earned a 67-63 win to advance.

Pride guard Carter Whitt kissed a layup off the glass to give Leesville Road its first lead of the second half with less than two minutes to play.

Then, on the next possession, Wildcat senior captain Phillip Burwell took the lead right back.

Leesville Road looked to draw even or take a last-second lead but was called for a five-second violation with eight seconds left in the game.

The Pride’s season ended and the Wildcats move on to host Knightdale on Saturday.
