NEW YORK (WNCN) – Opening Day at Yankee Stadium.

The smell of the grass. The crack of the bat. And the sound of a pitch slapping against a batter’s elbow.

New York’s Luke Voit stepped up to the plate in the first inning against the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday and hit a home run.

During the fifth inning, Voit stepped into the batter’s box to face pitcher Mike Wright.

A pitch by Wright slammed into Voit’s left elbow.

Photographer Sarah Stier captured the moment the ball bounced off Voit’s elbow – sending a shock wave across his arm.

Wright was pulled after one inning while Voit finished with a batting average of 1.000 and four RBIs in route to the Yankees 7-2 win.
