A Brunswick County man was sentenced to at least 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder in the 2015 death of his girlfriend’s 15-month-old son.

Albert David Morgan III pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury in the death of Brayden Christopher Ray in January 2015.

Morgan was sentenced to 360-450 months in prison.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, Brayden Ray was left in the care of Morgan when he suffered life-threatening injuries to his brain.

On Jan. 15, Morgan and the child’s mother, Angel Ray, brought the child to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.

On Jan. 17, 2015, Brayden Ray died as a result of his injuries.

Angel Ray previously pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact and will have a sentencing hearing in August or September.
