RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – For the second month in a row, the CBS 17 Storm Team got 29 of 31 days correct for the month during the January 3-Degree Guarantee. As a result, Storm Team Chief Meteorologist Wes Hohenstein presented Sandy McMillan, executive director of New Voices Foundation, with a $2,900 check from CBS 17 and Allen Kelly & Company Heating and Air.
Every month, CBS 17 picks a different local charity to raise money and awareness for during the daily 3-Degree Guarantee. Each day when the CBS 17 Storm Team gets the next day’s forecast correct within three degrees, CBS 17 and Allen Kelly & Company donate $100 to a charity.
At the end of the month, all the money raised is totaled and presented to that month’s group.
New Voices Foundation was selected as the January 2019 charity. It is a North Carolina nonprofit organization that helps children who can’t communicate due to a disability learn news ways to communicate, usually using devices.
Since 2007, New Voices has helped students in several counties and school districts in central North Carolina. Most of the children have severe disabilities affecting their ability to speak and move independently. While the school districts can provide a lot of the support and tools, New Voices fills the gap in several different ways.
