Roosters, Goats, Sheep at Farm Rescue Benefit From 3° Guarantee

3 Degree Guarantee

The Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge in Chatham County North Carolina is the March 3°Guarantee charity of the month for CBS 17. The refuge was founded in 2012 and the first farm animal rescue was a rooster named Robby. Shortly after Robby arrived at the refuge a hen named Esmeralda arrived and the two began quite the love story.

Robby the rooster built Esmeralda ten nests within the first hour of meeting her. This type of love story with rescued animals isn’t normal, but all the animals have an interesting journey. Ponty the goat is the refuge’s most recent rescue and was brought to the refuge located in Pittsboro North Carolina by Frank Austin.

Ponty the goat was roaming Frank’s land and was not in good shape. He was malnourished, didn’t look healthy and was at risk of being hunted by coyotes. Since arriving at the refuge earlier this year Ponty the goat is now thriving, like all the animals. Roosters, goats, ducks, sheep and turkeys, all come to the refuge to live the rest of their lives and be safe.

The refuge was founded by Lenore Braford in 2012 and is the home to approximately 120 farm animals. In addition to animal rescue, the refuge offers a variety of educational and community programs including guided tours, monthly potlucks, vegan cooking classes, and the kids summer camp program.

The refuge sits on 20 acres of land and is continuing to add living spaces and the type of animals they rescue. The refuge hopes to welcome cows soon and is currently in the middle of a cow campaign fundraiser. The refuge is always in need of volunteers who love animals and is willing to work with them directly.

Every month CBS 17 picks a different local charity to raise money and awareness for during the daily 3-Degree Guarantee.  Each day when the CBS 17 Storm Team gets the next day’s forecast correct within three degrees, we donate $100 to that charity. At the end of the month, all the money raised is totaled and presented to that month’s group.
