Flood waters are devastating Spring Lake. Water levels continue to rise after Tropical Storm Florence pounded the area with torrential rains.
CBS 17’s Amy Cutler rode with the Spring Lake Fire Department to document the damage done by the Little River’s flooding.
She and the fire department traversed the flooded roadways. Residents said the flooding was worse than the area experienced during Hurricane Matthew in 2016.
A pregnant woman and her four children had to be rescued from a hotel that was being washed away.
The flooding will only get worse, officials say, as the Little River is expected to crest Tuesday.
Flooding in Spring Lake has led to multiple road closures as of Tuesday morning:
- N.C. 24 Bragg Boulevard is closed from Frugal Circle to N.C. 690 Vass Road
- Manchester Road is closed from Little River Road to Veterans Drive
- N.C. 210 Lillington Highway is closed from Britania Road to Cottageville Drive
