RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The most severe weather threat central North Carolina has seen in a little more than three years has forced nearly every North Carolina county to be under a tornado watch.

Tornado watch? Tornado warning? What’s the difference?

“Confidence continues to grow with respect to the severe weather potential Friday afternoon and evening,” the National Weather Service – Raleigh said.

Dare and Hyde counties are not under the watch.

Orange, Person, and Alamance counties were under a tornado warning briefly Friday morning but it expired without incident. Later, counties such as Vance and Granville were under a warning.
